Welcome to the KJEC Experience Online! 

KJEC Online is a free program designed for Korean and Japanese middle and high school students, but all English language learners are welcome to practice and learn English using our fun activities and videos.

For the summer of 2020, from August 1st to August 7th we will be posting daily English videos and activities. 

August 1: English Idioms by Mathew Goldberg 

Watch this video to learn useful and fun phrases to build up your English conversation skills.

Mat is the KJEC Program Director. He taught conversational English classes at a high school in South Korea from 2014 to 2017 through the Fulbright Korea program. Mat is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

August 2 LIVE ONLINE @ 11am - 12pm: The Language of Tap Dance by Sam Italiano

Join for an in-person class via video beginner's exploration of the American art form, tap dance. You will learn the basic ABC's of tap dance, and begin to understand how it is used as a language-- a language spoken throughout the world.

Sam has been dancing for over twenty years, with a passion for tap dance. Studying with some of the best in the world like Dianne Walker, Bril Barrett, Gene Medler, and Brenna Kuhn, she has been honing her teaching styles over the years. Sam loves sharing the history and culture of the dance with her students, and above all, seeing the smiles of students while they dance!

August 3: How to bake an apple crumble by Margaret Lewellen 

Watch this video to practice your listening skills and learn how to bake a classic American dessert.

August 4 & 5: Lava Lesson Part 1 & 2 by Anna Yamamuro  

Watch this video to practice your pronunciation skills, to understand the difference between "I hope" and "I wish", and learn the Disney Pixar song "Lava".  

Anna Yamamuro is a language teacher and mentor and is a 2019 KJEC teacher alum. She has over seven years of experience teaching English, Japanese, and Korean to students of all ages, from around the world. Her life goal is to connect the world through music and food. When she is not teaching she loves to bake sweets, arrange flowers, and spend time with friends and family.

August 6: What do you value? by Lu-ise Hattingh 

Watch this video to learn about different cultures and hear about what people value in their lives.

Lu-ise is a 2019 KJEC teacher alum and a second-year Assistant Language Teacher at Miyazaki Minami High School in Miyazaki City, Japan. She loves teaching and climbing mountains.

August 7: Write a Postcard by Gustava Endara 

Watch this video to practice your English by learning how to write a postcard.

Gustavo is the KJEC Assistant Director and is a 2017 KJEC teacher alum. He currently works at the Fukui city Department of Education as an Elementary Assistant Language Teacher and previously worked as a high school English teacher for the JET (Japan English Teacher) Program from 2015 to 2018.
